Cap is made of dark blue wool with a straight round body approx. 2.75 inches high and a straight flat-topped crown approx. 6.50 inches wide. Each side of the crown has two vent holes approx. 2.00 inches apart.
Black leather visor slants downward and has a bound edge with a green leather underside.
Chinstrap is of thin black leather with one sliding brass keeper and one fixed leather keeper. Side buttons are three-piece general service eagle buttons.
Pinned to the front of the crown are crossed rifles with the regimental number “6” at top and company letter “F” at bottom.
Interior is lined with black polished cotton and has a 2.00 inch wide brown leather sweatband. Stamped in the crown is a maker’s name that reads “J. A. JOEL & COMPANY, 88 NASSAU ST. NEW YORK, MILITARY SUPPLIERS.”
The overall condition of the cap’s exterior is very good with only one small moth hole on the front of the crown, which is covered by the cap insignia.
Interior is in nice condition with the sweat band showing only minor sweat stains from use. Inked on the sweatband are the initials “W. J. M.” [AD] [PH:L]
