Light weight steel helmet as used by German Police during WW2. These helmets were worn during regular duty when the combat helmet would be too heavy.
The body of this helmet has its original black paint as well as the two original decals of the Police eagle with wreath and swastika and the red shield with a black swastika on a white field. However, the shield and swastika decal has been scratched off. This was done to “de-nazify” the helmet either for continued use by the German police in a Zone of Occupation or sent home as a souvenir. Original paint is present throughout with numerous scratches and chipped paint causing some surface rust. Mostly on the crown. Crown has four vents, two on each side. Vents consist of seven small holes arranged in a circular pattern.
Interior has the leather sweatband with pad in the crown. Sweatband is held in place by four rivets and shows heavy wear with all eight liner tongues completely intact. Base of the liner has leather tabs for attaching a leather skirt to protect the neck.
There is no maker mark which is acceptable and the chinstrap is missing.
This helmet shows signs of long hard use and storage but is still an interesting piece of history. [ad]
