Black fore & aft creased slouch hat, with 3.5” brim & cloth trimmed rim. Plus bullion infantry insignia, and bullion chord w/bulb tassels. Topped with spectacular black feather plume. Plus cloth headband (under bullion chord), and inner leather hat band. Small size, approx. 6 5/8”.
The body of the hat is in excellent condition, solid and clean (as is the plume), with one tiny right-side hole near the crown. The outer brim trim exhibits light fraying in three or four spots. Ditto the outer headband. Inner leather band is worn, while remaining nearly intact. No discernable maker-mark.
Officer slouch hats in such fine condition, with accompanying plume and outer accoutrements, are extremely rare. A superlative collectible. [jp]
