Hat is made of pressed black felt and is in good condition.
The exterior of the hat is in very nice condition with only some light scattered surface dirt. The edge of the brim has two parallel lines of stitching and some light surface crazing. Around the base of the crown is a yellow cavalry hat cord. Approximately 2.75 inches above the base of the crown is a regulation Civil War stamped brass crossed sabers. The right side of the brim is turned up and held in place by a stamped brass Eagle shako rosette.
The interior of the hat is very good. The ox-blood sweatband is complete and exhibits light signs of wear consisting of two very small slight tears in two places along the bottom edge and some areas of missing thread but nothing major. The label in the crown is in good condition. It displays an eagle over cannon, flags and a shield and reads “US ARMY” over the top and “EXTRA MANUFACTURE” across the bottom with a size number “3.” [ad]
