Mint unissued pair of Military / Civilian style work shoes circa 1870-75 period. Made in a left and right pattern, size #6 with a two tone finish surface of blackened rough-out uppers and undyed exterior smooth-out half-round counters. The vamp/ quarters side seams stitching is reinforced by japanned iron domed head “tube” rivets. Counter/ quarters are machine chain stitched and reinforced by two japanned finished iron dome head “tube” rivets. The lacing holes, (Three holes, paired) are reinforced by inset large brass grommets with the original raw hide laces. The tongue side edges are sewn full length to the quarters. Located on the soles are 92 dome headed hobnails and crescent iron toe plate held on by five hobnails as well. Another unusual feature is that the leather heel facing is set into a surrounding iron” band-plate “and has fifteen iron hobnail attached within. The sole is attached to the uppers by means of a series of small square-headed iron nails. Certainly, a superb pair of rugged 19th century period “Brogans”.
