This Voltigeurs cuff button (Albert's #VG2Av) is a scarce item even in relic condition. It features a light green patina and its original shank. The original digger's typed tag reads "Sm. Voltigeurs Gaine's [sic] Mill Battlefield 5 June 1976."

Button depicts eagle with "V" for Voltigeurs, a unit authorized during the Mexican War, employing rifles and light mounted artillery to fight in mountainous terrain.  The unit was disbanded after the Mexican War, around 1850.  Although these buttons were manufactured during the 1840's, they are much more commonly found in Civil War sites of the Virginia campaign, than Mexican War sites, and may have been drawn  from old stocks left in the arsenals, or a Virginia militia unit may have purchased them during the 1850's, using the "V" for "Virginia".
