Recovered at an unknown location, this dug, die-struck, brass, oval waist belt plate specimen is in good relic condition. Measures 3¼” x 2”. Face of specimen has the large raised letters “US” and the double border but has a number of old nicks and dents from use. Face wears a pleasing dark bronze patina overall and still shows a small amount of dirt still in protected areas. Backside retains both arrowhead hooks plus the single clasp. Lead backside is dark gray and is strong and solid with slight pock marking overall. Plate is almost flat. This excavated, brass U.S. oval waist belt plate is a genuine artifact of battle that would be worthy addition to Civil War plate collection.
