Face of the plate has a nice brown patina. The letters “OVM” really stand out well. Skin has a freeze crack behind the letter “O.” Two small chips are missing out of the edge in this area. The rest of the face is good. Back has 90% lead fill with some missing in area of above mentioned crack. Both the “puppy paw” hooks and tongue are present on the back. The plate was dug at Fort Wyman in Rolla, Missouri. Fort Wyman was built to protect the city of Rolla after the Union defeat at Wilson’s Creek in August of 1861. The fort was named after Col. John B. Wyman of the 13th Illinois who was killed in action at Chickasaw Bayou.
