CONFEDERATE SURRENDER RELIC DISPLAY FROM APPOMATTOX

$150.00 ON HOLD

Quantity Available: 1

Item Code: 173-4321

As word of the surrender was passed down to the officers and men of the Army of Northern Virginia, many abandoned or destroyed their equipment to prevent confiscation by US forces.  This display provides remarkable evidence of such activities and was acquired by the Horse Soldier in 1995 as part of a larger collection from a private museum.

Included in the grouping are a range of Confederate items, with several rare pieces – all dug from the final campsites of Lee’s army.

Housed in a glass front Riker display box, the grouping includes:

An M.A. Baker Fayetteville 1817 Flintlock Conversion buttplate, a British Enfield tool, 5 dropped Gardner bullets, a CS cavalry sword scabbard band with ring, a Confederate sword drop, pistol cleaning rod, 5 dropped Enfield bullets, the side plate of a Richmond Sharps Carbine, and part of a Richmond made cavalry spur.

This grouping is a veritable snapshot in time of the moment when the war in the east came to an end, showcasing the final acts of a defeated army’s defiance.  This grouping would be a welcome addition to any Civil War collection, with ties to one of the war’s most important events.    [cm] [ph:L]
