Nicely written on the face in white paint is “FREDERICKSBURG, VA.”
Attached is a printed tag that reads “BATTLES OF FREDERICKSBURG DEC. 10-13, 1862 – THIS PIECE OF SHRAPNEL WAS FOUND ON THE BATTLEFIELD SOUTH OF THE CITY. THIS WAS THE AREA OCCUPIED BY THE DIVISION OF UNION GENERAL FRANKLIN DURING THE BATTLE.” [ad][ph:L]
