This relic was recovered in the wilderness by Sid Kerksis. The brass "skin" remains in near perfect condition and the three hook set remains attached on the back. However most of the lead backing has melted away. Likely this dropped plate was a casualty of the wild fires that broke out in the Wilderness brush during the battle.
Beautiful smooth brown patina with dirt left in place all these years. Relic hunter legend and author Sid Kirksis found this plate and it was sold into the well-known Wendell Lang collection.
A fine Wilderness relic. [jet] [PH:L]
