U.S. / C.S. 6-POUNDER SOLID SHOT – FROM ANTIETAM

$395.00 ON HOLD

Quantity Available: 1

Item Code: 490-6998

This is a simple solid shot projectile used in outdated 6-pounder cannons left over from the Mexican War. A very few were still in use during the Civil War, mostly by Confederate forces. This is a solid iron cannon ball with dark brown tone and smooth surface. “A030” is painted in white on the ball.

Reported to have been recovered at Antietam.

In use, the ball would have been secured to a wood sabot by two crossed iron straps. A powder bag would be tied to a groove in the base of the sabot. After attaching the powder charge, the round was referred to as fixed ammunition.  [jet] [ph:L]
