This British-made accoutrement is an original saber bayonet made for the Enfield .577 caliber rifle musket. This is an old relic recovery so it remains in fairly good condition for an excavated piece.
The bayonet, with its Yataghan-style blade measures 28” long with a 22.5” blade and has a 15” fuller on each side. Blade shows no markings. Blade exhibits rust and light pitting; cleaner on one side than the other. A single, shrunken, checkered leather grip remains on one side.
A nice relic Enfield saber bayonet recovered from Fredericksburg, VA. [jet] [ph:L]
