Excavated US cartridge box plate for the outer flap of the infantry cartridge pouch. Brass stamped face featuring central “US”. Full lead on reverse with one of the iron loops remaining. Tag on back noting recovery location. Nice patina front and back.
Recovered from the “Geo Smith” Farm at Antietam. We don’t know if this is the name of the farm owner in 1983 or if it refers to the O.J. Smith Farm that was used as a field hospital after the battle of Antietam.
Very nice condition. [jet] [ph:L]
