Excavated brass fuse in very good condition. Brass still shows nice yellow tone with very light patina. This is due to the rocky conditions on Maryland Heights where it was recovered. Maryland Heights overlooks Harpers Ferry and was lined with artillery.
The anvil is set to arm the fuse but it does not appear to have been fired as it is in excellent condition. Patent information stamped on top, “J. P. SCHENKL / PAT. OCT. 10, 1861”. The safety screw has rusted away.
Recovered by author/publisher Dean Thomas. [jet] [ph:L]
