Frame contains 11 pieces. An infantry hunting horn insignia at center, surrounded by seven three-piece New York “EXCELSIOR” coat buttons and one three-piece cuff button of the same style as well as a coat sized infantry “I” eagle button and a three-piece Massachusetts cuff button.

All are in good condition but one of the “EXCELSIOR” coat buttons has a push to the face.

Framed the item meas. approx. 9.50 x 12.75 inches. Across the top of the frame is a tape label that reads “LOC. 71ST N. Y. CAMP DONCASTER MD.”

Reverse has the frame has a paper label with a spread-winged eagle on it  and a shield that reads “1861 CAMP OF SICKLES EXCELSIOR BRIGADE DONCASTER, MARYLAND 1971.”

The 71st New York was part of the famous Excelsior Brigade and saw action on the Peninsula, 2nd Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Cold Harbor and Petersburg.  [ad] [ph:L]
