Offered here is a brass carbine shoulder sling buckle. Recovered in the area of the camps and the string of fortifications known as the Bernard Line. Located along the crest of Maryland Heights and overlooking Harpers Ferry.
Fort Duncan was on the far left flank of the Bernard Line, with a Naval Battery, Six-Gun Battery, 100-Pounder Battery, a Sawyer Batter, a 30-Pounder Battery, and the “Stone Fort” among the series of fortifications along Maryland Heights. The mission of these forts was to guard the land surrounding Harpers Ferry and Bolivar Heights, as well as traffic on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and Chesapeake & Ohio Canal.
This is a very nice relic, in perfect condition with even brown patina overall. No bends or breaks. Recovered by Dean Thomas in the late 1970s to early 1980s. [jet] [ph:L]
