Offered here is a Ryker case of assorted Civil War relics. All recovered in the area of the camps and the string of fortifications known as the Bernard Line. Located along the crest of Maryland Heights and overlooking Harpers Ferry.
Fort Duncan was the far left flank of the Bernard Line, with a Naval Battery, Six-Gun Battery, 100-Pounder Battery, a Sawyer Batter, a 30-Pounder Battery, and the “Stone Fort” among the series of fortifications along Maryland Heights. The mission of these forts was to guard the land surrounding Harpers Ferry and Bolivar Heights, as well as traffic on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and Chesapeake & Ohio Canal.
Included in this relic sampler are carved bullets, general service Eagle buttons, Staff, and Eagle “I” buttons. Also, a needle case, piece of comb, Gallager case, musket wiper, and “burnt” roller buckle. There are three coins; 1828 large cent, and two well-worn King George coins. All recovered by Dean Thomas in the late 1970s to early 1980s. [jet] [ph:L]
