These percussion caps were recovered from the wreck of the Blockade Runner “Minho.”
Plastic container with paper label reads, "Percussion caps. Salvaged from the blockade runner Minho. The Minho grounded off Fort Moultrie on the morning of 20 October 1862."
The "Minho" ran the Union blockade between Bermuda and Charleston. On October 2, 1862, she ran aground and was struck by a shell from the U.S.S. Flambeau while trying to enter Charleston Harbor. Her cargo consisted of arms and ammunition for the Confederacy.
Container is 2.75” x 1.25” x 1.25” filled with percussion caps with a few small sea shells mixed in. [jet] [ph:L]
