This is a common .52 caliber bullet for the Sharps “new model” carbine or rifle. This is probably the most common style of Sharps bullet. This cast version has a solid base with raised bands around the bullet.
Of special interest is the notation on the bullet. Done in fine black ink is, “U.S. / SHARPS / CARBINE / SKIN”. This particularly neat form of lettering is known to have been done by Mac Mason. Co-author of “Civil War Projectiles,” his neatly identified relics have become much sought after by collectors. [jet] [ph:L]
