This is an excavated, iron picket pin.  A regulation piece of equipment for cavalrymen. Used to stake-down a horse temporarily while on picket or grazing.

Measures approximately 13.5” long overall. Iron “figure 8” loop swivels around the top. Some pitting to the surface but in excellent condition for a “dug” relic.

Recovered from Antietam, Maryland.    [jet] [PH:L]
