This type of Confederate cavalry spur is one of the rarest and this specimen remains in very good condition. This style is called a raking rowel spur as the spins "sideways". Here the iron rowel is missing while the pin remains.
The brass has a nice green patina. Instead of the usual strap slots at the ends of the arms, this spur utilizes raised "buttons". The straight neck has a square profile. There are no bends or cracks, a truely nice example.
Recovered near Orange, Virginia. [jet] [PH:L]
