This Confederate spur uses oval, slotted strap plates, and somewhat crudely cast convex side bars that extend smoothly into the goose-neck style neck with rounded tip and flat sides at the rowel box.

About half of the iron rowel remains. The brass surface shows coarse sand casting and has a mostly dark green patina. There are no bends, breaks or cracks.

These are often referred to as the Mississippi style by collectors. This one was recovered near Orange, Virginia and is a nice Confederate cavalryman’s spur.  [jet] [PH:L]
