Here is a 3/8” thick slice of wood that measures 4 ¼” in diameter. Glued to one side is the remains of an old, printed label:

“Richmond, Va., May 20, 1890.

I, C.L. Parker, hereby cer[tify] that this block once formed a [___] of the flag-pole that is said to have [___] the Confederate flag that floated over the Confederate Congress. The pole was cu[t] down as being unfit for use on accoun[t] of being warped or crooked, and this block was cut from it.

[Per]sonnally appeared before me, C. Lee Moore, [N]otary Public in and for the city aforesaid in the Stat[e] of Virginia, C.L.
