This item is an excavated Sharps carbine; complete except for the butt plate and the lever/trigger guard pin.
The barrel is full length with front and rear sights remaining. The breech is closed with the hammer at half cock. The hammer is also bent over slightly. This could be one the reasons it was discarded or could have been done intentionally to make is unserviceable. The inner parts are all visible. The main spring is broken and likely the initial reason for discarding the carbine. The bar and ring remain on the left side of the receiver.
The lever/trigger guard is the only loose piece. The pin is missing and the lever can be removed.
This is a “dug” relic and shows rust and pitting. This was coated with something long ago and could use a second coat. Iron remains stable.
Unknown recovery location.
A very interesting cavalry relic. [jet] [PH:L]
