This is an excavated badge from an employee at the U.S.M.C. quartermaster department. The brass badge is engraved “U.S.M.C. / 1098 / Q.M. DEPT.” and has an even “dug” green patina. There is a spring pin attached to the back. The catch on the pin is broken off. The badge measures 2” in diameter.

Recovered in the Fredericksburg, Virginia area, but these look to be possibly World War 1 vintage.  [jet] [PH:L]
