This is an excavated “eagle” plate for the shoulder strap of the infantry cartridge box. Brass face has a perfect dark brown patina. All details of the eagle display very well.
The plate’s reverse has 100% of the lead fill. The two iron loops remain and are also in very good condition. Unknown recovery location.
An original “dug” Civil War enlistedman’s eagle breast plate in very nice condition. [jet] [ph:L]
