Relic section of brass, militia sword scabbard and measures approximately 5 ½” long. This appears to be the throat portion of the scabbard. A small brass ring mount is still attached. Brass has smooth brown patina with traces of gilt. Marked in white paint, “Burnside Bridge / Antietam Battlefield”.

Part of an old collection of Antietam Battlefield relics. Original collector/painter is unknown. All pieces from this group feature similar identifications done in a fine script with white paint.  [jet]
