The face of this plate has good details on the eagle but the brass surface has suffered some damage. There are approx. six freeze cracks around the edges and the center is creased with two small separate cracks on the eagle’s body.
Reverse has approx. 80% of the lead fill with a deep gouge across half the back. Rust lines show where the hooks once were. Barely visible in the lead is the stamped word “BROOKLYN” showing the plate was made by the firm of W. H. SMITH of Brooklyn, New York.
Plate was recovered at Petersburg, Virginia. [ad]
