This iron lock was recovered from City Point, Virginia, after the explosion on August 9, 1864, that was a result of Confederate sabotage. Confederate Secret Service agent John Maxwell has smuggled a bomb with a timed fuse aboard an ammunition barge. It caused a tremendous explosion that shook the city and caused much damage.

Lock has a keyhole cover which does not move. Item has a darkened patina with slight pitting and surface rust. Measures approx. 4” x 3”.  [sm]
