A very nice excavated US bit boss. Two of these brass items adorned the cavalry curb bit. There would have been one on each side near the cheek area of the horse's head. This example has the “stippled” background and a square period between the "U" and the "S." The stippled background extends to the tabs top and bottom. This example is in great shape with only the slightest bend. It has a pleasing green patina and was excavated at Brandy Station, VA.
Measures: 2" x 1.25”.
