Nice dropped condition. Very neat black ink printing on the projectile’s nose reads “C.S. / .54 / SUHL / (GERMAN) / CARBINE. / FT. / DONALDSON.”
This projectile comes from the collection of the late Mac Mason who along with W. Reid McKee wrote one of the earliest books on Civil War ammunition entitled “Civil War Projectiles.” Though their research has been surpassed by Dean and Jim Thomas their work is still a useful reference and Mr. Mason’s tell-tale handwriting on items from his collection make them very collectable.
