This relic is a complete half of a Confederate tin drum canteen. It appears as one of the side panels was cut off leaving the edge with the sling keepers. What remained was then used as a mess plate or pan.
The item is rusted throughout. The base has three small holes. The edges has been crushed and bent over from being in the ground. All three sling keepers have been removed. There is some material loss over the cut edge. There is one section of the edge that has triangular cuts that look like a bayonet may have been used to cut the missing side panel.
This item was recovered in Dallas, Georgia, an area that saw much action during the Atlanta Campaign.
A very interesting relic.
