This patchbox cover from an 1841 Mississippi rifle measures 6 inches long and 1.25 inches wide. The original digger's typed tag reads "Model 1841 .58 Caliber Percussion Rifle Butt Plate, Patch Box Cover and portion of Trigger Guard found on the Fredericksburg, Virginia Battlefield in 1966 Battle of Feb. 13 1862", partially legible.
