A two piece size, coat size (23mm) dug example of the 1852 pattern U.S. naval button. The obverse side of this example shows about 70% of its gold gilt surface remaining. The reverse shows a darkened oxidized patina from ground action. The shank is still present and the manufactures name is visible in raised makings in a depressed SCOVILL MFG. Co WATERBURY.
