This is the brass cap and spout from a powder flask discarded in a winter camp in Stafford County, Virginia. The brass has darkened from age and ground action. Still visible are markings that read “BATTY 1848.” With the item is a small typed label that reads “POWDER FLASK SPOUTS FOUND IN STAFFORD COUNTY, VIRGINIA. SITE OF WINTER CAMP 1862-1863.”
