This small lot contains six pieces in all.

First in the group is a wonderful 1880’s cabinet card photograph by Richmond photographer George S. Cook showing the 90 foot high stone pyramid monument dedicated in 1869 by the Ladies of the Hollywood Memorial Association to the Confederate dead in the Civil War. Posed in front of the monument is a Confederate Veteran in his UCV uniform holding a First National Confederate flag. The flag is held extended by a second man while two little children stand nearby, each holding a Confederate battle flag. Contrast and clarity are excellent. Reverse bears Cook’s name and address as well as the name of the series the image is from “VIEWS OF RICHMOND AND VICINITY.” The caption on the reverse reads “MONUMENT TO CONFEDERATE DEAD HOLLYWOOD CEMETERY, WHERE LIE BURIED 18,000 CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS. HEIGHT- 90 FEET, BASE OF MONUMENT – 45 FEET, COST $18,000.”

Also in the group is an 1870’s stereo view of the monument by Anderson of Richmond, Virginia. The image is mounted on an orange card marked “ANDERSON’S STEREOSCOPIC VIEWS.” Contrast and clarity are very good with only minor light surface dirt from age. Reverse lists other views offered by the company.

Next is an unused 1920’s or 30’s color postcard view of the memorial with explanatory text on the reverse. Card is in good condition.

Lastly are three modern 4.00 x 6.00 snap shots of the monument.  [ad] [ph:L]
