View is of the neatly fenced in lane leading to Major General George B. McClellan’s headquarters along Antietam Creek. Photo is by B. W. T. PHREANER of Hagerstown, Maryland.

The image looks up the lane toward a small patch of woods with the Pry house just visible above the trees in the distance.

Clarity and contrast are excellent.

Stereo view is mounted on heavy orange stock with Phreaner’s name along one edge and “PICTURESQUE WESTERN MARYLAND, ANTIETAN BATTLEFIELD” on the other.

Reverse has a wonderfully flowing period ink inscription of “MCCLELLAN’S HEADQUARTERS DURING ANTIETAM BATTLE.” Reverse has some light surface dirt.  [ad] [ph:L]
