The Gettysburg Electric Railway was a trolley system that existed from September 1893 - November 1916. It ran from town and to different places on the battlefield.

There are a total of seven tickets; four tickets are still connected to each other, as are the remaining three. The tickets have differing destinations, as follows:

1.  Marked in red ink, “THE GETTYSBURG ELECTRIC RAILWAY CO. ONE FIRST CLASS PASSAGE PEACH ORCHARD TO WHEAT FIELD, VOID IF DETACHED”. Front side of ticket has a photo of the Peach Orchard; reverse of ticket features a scene from the Gettysburg Cyclorama painting and is labeled in red ink, “WHEAT FIELD”.

2.  Marked in red ink, “THE GETTYSBURG ELECTRIC RAILWAY CO. ONE FIRST CLASS PASSAGE MEADE’S HEADQUARTERS TO PEACH ORCHARD, VOID IF DETACHED”. Front side of ticket has a photo of the Peach Orchard; reverse of ticket features a scene from the Gettysburg Cyclorama painting and is labeled in red ink, “PEACH ORCHARD”.

3.  Marked in red ink, “THE GETTYSBURG ELECTRIC RAILWAY CO. ONE FIRST CLASS PASSAGE NATIONAL CEMETERY TO MEADE’S HEADQUARTERS, VOID IF DETACHED”. Front side of ticket has a photo of Meade’s HQ; reverse of ticket is a closer view of “MEADE’S HEADQUARTERS”.

4.  Marked in red ink, “THE GETTYSBURG ELECTRIC RAILWAY CO. ONE FIRST CLASS PASSAGE GETTYSBURG TO NATIONAL CEMETERY, VOID IF DETACHED”. Front side of ticket has a photo of the National Cemetery; reverse of ticket features a scene from the Gettysburg Cyclorama painting and is labeled in red ink, “NATIONAL CEMETERY”.

5.  Marked in red ink, “THE GETTYSBURG ELECTRIC RAILWAY CO. ONE FIRST CLASS PASSAGE LITTLE ROUND TOP TO HIGH WATER MARK, VOID IF DETACHED”. Front side of ticket has a photo of the Copse of Trees & High Water Mark monument; reverse of ticket features a scene from the Gettysburg Cyclorama painting and is labeled in red ink, “HIGH WATER MARK”.

6.  Marked in red ink, “THE GETTYSBURG ELECTRIC RAILWAY CO. ONE FIRST CLASS PASSAGE DEVIL’S DEN TO LITTLE ROUND TOP, VOID IF DETACHED”. Front side of ticket has a photo of Little Round Top; reverse of ticket features a scene from the Gettysburg Cyclorama painting and is labeled in red ink, “LITTLE ROUND TOP”.

7.  Marked in red ink, “THE GETTYSBURG ELECTRIC RAILWAY CO. ONE FIRST CLASS PASSAGE WHEAT FIELD TO DEVIL’S DEN, VOID IF DETACHED”. Front side of ticket has a photo of Devil’s Den; reverse of ticket features a photo of Devil’s Den with “dead” soldiers, and is labeled in red ink, “DEVIL’S DEN”.

Each ticket has been punched with an “O”, representing a 1st Corps Badge.

Tickets are yellowed with age but images are clear; light scattered soiling.

Each ticket measures 2 ¾” x 1 ¾”.

This is a nice vintage collectible of early Gettysburg memorabilia.  [ld]
