Tintype shows the soldier and wife fully dressed for the outdoors and posed standing side by side.
The soldier wears a dark slouch hat with an infantry hunting horn on the front, a dark overcoat, dark single-breasted frock coat and matching trousers. He strikes a Napoleonic pose with one hand tucked in the front of his frock coat.
The soldier’s wife wears a light bonnet with flowers in at top between her hair and the bonnet material. She wears a dark dress and a light colored coat with a fur over her shoulders and her hands in a fur muff at her waist. The large white ribbons extending from the bottom of her bonnet are tied into a beautiful large bow and the tails fall over the fur on her shoulders giving them a beautiful contrast.
Image has good clarity but the contrast is a bit dark. All details are clearly visible.
The mat is decorated with chevrons, scrolls and lines while the frame is the usual scroll decoration.
Photo is housed in half of a leather case. Exterior of the case shows light wear from age and storage. [ad] [ph:L]
