The unidentified subject is posed cradling a very fine presentation grade Model 1852 Naval Officer’s sword.
The subject wears a dark double-breasted frock coat open from the midriff to the collar exposing his white shirt and dark bowtie. The coat has brush epaulettes on the shoulders and two parallel stripes around each collar. He also wears matching dark trousers. At the subjects waist is a very decorative sword belt with two-piece tongue and wreath Navy plate while the belt has an embroidered oak leaf decoration throughout. In the officer’s right hand is his cap with commander’s rank insignia.
Contrast and clarity are excellent. Mount has clipped corners other wise the mount and paper are clean.
Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for BROADBENT & CO… PHILADELPHIA. Imprint is partially obscured by residue from an old label. Also in modern pencil on the reverse is “COMMANDER.” [AD] [ph:L]
