Here is a very nice carte de visite (CDV) of a Federal officer with mourning ribbons.
Full standing studio pose. He wears a dark four-button coat with black velvet collar and shoulder straps. A small portion of a military style vest is visible where the coat is separated. His dark trousers feature a thin stripe down the leg. On a table next to the officer sits a slouch hat with hat cord.
There is a dark cockade with ribbons pinned to his chest and black crepe tied around his arm. It is very likely these mourning ribbons are for Lincoln’s death.
Typical ruled mount is trimmed at the top, bottom, and corners. Elaborate backmark reads, “CRANDELL & CONKEY / Souvenir / GLEN’S FALLS / N.Y.” There is also a blue, two-cent Revenue stamp on the back.
A fine image of a Union officer in mourning. [jet] [ph:jet]
