CDV OF THREE REGULAR US ARMY OFFICERS IN MEXICO

Item Code: 160-359

Image shows three officers, one seated at center flanked by two others. The seated officer wears a fully adorned Pattern 1858 dress hat, also known as the “Hardee hat.” The front of the crown bears an infantry hunting horn with a two-digit number at center that is difficult to make out. He also wears a dark single-breasted frock coat with a black felt collar open at the throat and brush epaulettes on the shoulders with light-colored trousers and dark leg stripe. He also wears a sash diagonally across his chest signifying that he is Officer of the Day, sword and belt. He rests his arm on the hit of his sword.

His two comrades are similarly dressed but their frock coats are buttoned to the throat and their sashes are worn at the waist under their sword belts. All three men wear white gloves.

Contrast is a bit light but it works. Paper and mount are very good.

Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for N. BROWN E HIJO… CHIHUAHUA, MEXICO. There are three names written in period pencil on the reverse one is “HART” but the other two are hard to read. There is also “1867-73.”

Nice image of three officers in regulation uniforms.  [ad][ph:L]
