CDV is of an officer posed with a high-grade cavalry saber displayed in front of him. A close look at the saber shows a guard decorated with a spread-winged eagle while the metal scabbard has ornate mounts and visible between the mounts is an engraved presentation.
The subject wears a dark slouch hat with crossed sabers on the front of the crown, a dark single -breasted frock coat with shoulder straps and light trousers.
The contrast and clarity are very good. Mount has clipped corners and the bottom edge has been trimmed. Paper has light surface dirt.
Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for WM. RICHARDSON… WILLIAMSBURG and an old pencil ID of “GEN. PLEASONTON” which it is not. [ad][PH:L]
