This CDV is from the collection of the late William A. Turner. There is no ID or photographer’s imprint on the mount but Mr. Turner did mark the reverse with “VIRGINIA SOLDIER.” The only plausible reason for Mr. Turner marking the image this way is that it most likely came from a photo album containing other identified Virginia images.

The CDV is of an unknown subject posed with one hand resting on a draped column. He wears a forage cap with shell jacket and trousers. All three pieces of clothing match in color being of a light shade. The shell jacket is interesting, it has an 8-button front, high collar, button down cloth epaulettes that end in a point and a diagonal breast pocket. The cuffs have some light piping that is hard to discern.

Contrast and clarity are good. Mount and paper are the same.

Reverse is blank but for the previous mentioned notation.   [AD] [PH:L]
