CDV is a full seated view of two soldiers who are believed to be Confederates. The image comes from the collection of the late William A. Turner.

Both soldiers wear light-colored double-breasted frockcoats devoid of any obvious insignia except cuff piping. It is of interest to note that the soldier in the darker shade frock has light piping while his pardner is vice-versa so they may not be from the same unit. Both men wear trousers to match their coats. The fellow on the left is in the classic Napoleonic pose while the man on the right is posed with his hand on his pards shoulder. No doubt these men are friends or relations. The faces do show what could be considered familial features.

Upon inspection with a jeweler’s loop, it is possible that the man seated at right has the single bar of a 2nd lieutenant on his collar but it may also be a wrinkle or fold. It is up to the next owner to make that determination. Button details could not be determined.

Contrast and clarity are good. Mount and paper have been severely trimmed at top and bottom. Reverse has a clipped name in period ink that reads in part “GEO. H. Dan???”    [AD] [PH:L]
