Nice waist-up view of a southern captain sporting a goatee and wearing a double-breasted frockcoat with the three horizontal bars of a captain clearly visible on the collar. Atop his head is a dark slouch hat with dark edge binding. The crown is a bit “beehive” shaped while the front brim is turned up a bit.
Contrast and clarity are very good. Mount has been heavily trimmed across the top and the paper and mount have moderate surface dirt. Lower right has a few small spots of discoloration. Upper left edge has some paper residue.
Reverse is blank but for some collector information in pencil.
Image is from the collection of the late William A. Turner.
The image has some minor condition issues but the subject has a sharp look about him. [AD] [ph:L]
