This pair of images shows one brother posing alone while the other poses with a female companion.
The first image is a full standing view of a soldier with one arm resting on a highbacked chair. He wears a medium-colored shell jacket with matching vest and trousers. The jacket has a 12-button front with dark trim on the collar and continuing down the front placket. The jacket also has a single button on each side of the collar with dark trim on the button-down cloth epaulettes. On each sleeve there are corporal chevrons sewn to a dark backing while the cuffs have dark piping and above this, on both sleeves, is a dark veteran’s stripe. The trousers also appear to have a dark NCO leg stripe. The jacket is open and the vest partially, causing a white shirt and a plaid tie to be visible.
Contrast and clarity are excellent. Paper and mount are good but the mount corners are trimmed.
Reverse is blank but does have a period pencil inscription that reads “PITTSFIELD.”
The second photo in the group shows a different soldier and he is posed seated. This fellow is a private so he lacks the chevrons and the NCO leg stripe but otherwise, his uniform is identical to the soldier in the first image. This photo gives a better view of the jacket collar and epaulettes as well as the veteran’s stripe on the cuff. The soldier’s female companion stands beside him and wears an all-black dress with a black bow in her hair.
Contrast and clarity are excellent. Mount and paper are good but again, like the previous image, the mount corners are trimmed.
Reverse also has the period pencil “PITTSFIELD” inscription along with the outline of a now missing tax stamp.
The family connection of brothers is assumed as both men look similar in appearance. [ad] [ph:L]
