Image is of a young, perhaps 17-19 year old, Confederate private wearing a light-colored shell jacket buttoned only at the throat with a matching vest visible beneath.
Contrast and clarity are excellent. Mount has a printed frame with the paper cut into an oval to fit the printed frame. Mount and paper have some light surface dirt.
Reverse has no photographer’s imprint. There is a very strong period ink sentiment written at top. It reads “TO MISS ALICE STEWART FROM HER FRIEND + COZ.” At bottom in modern pencil is “ED TAYLOE.” There is also some collector information in pencil at bottom.
Image is from the collection of the late William A. Turner.
Searching the records brought up three possible candidates, E. T. Tayloe, Edward P. Tayloe and George E. Tayloe but unfortunately the first two were well over 30 and the third is unlikely.
Identified or not, it is a nice image of an average Confederate private. [ad][ph:L]
