CDV is of an unidentified lieutenant from the 11th Rhode Island who is posed standing erect with arms crossed on his chest. He wears the dark, long, loose fitting Rhode Island sack coat with shoulder straps and matching dark trousers with a thin light leg stripe. At his waist is his sash and sword belt with shoulder support strap and a Pattern 1851 officer’s belt plate. His Model 1850 Foot Officer’s sword is attached to his belt by his side. Next to him is a low table which holds his dark chasseur style kepi with a quatrefoil on top of the crown and sewn to the front is an infantry hunting horn with the regimental number “11” at center.
Contrast and clarity are very good. Mount and paper are also good but mount corners have been snipped and there is one speck of dirt along the left upper edge of the paper.
Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for DUNSHEE… PROVIDENCE, R.I.
The 11th Rhode Island was a nine-month regiment assigned to the Department of Washington and later to the Department of Virginia. They saw light service. [AD] [PH:L]
